The idea was simple: a globlin needs a haircut as well, but who's going to do that? This is just a quick sketch. It needs more work, especially the background. Should I be setting it in a modern environment or should I draw them in a background of trees like in a thick forest. I can't make up my mind. Setting it against a modern barber shop may means a better touch of humor... but it works either way too. Hmmm...... anyway I have made other sketches too. Feast your eyes out!

I have nothing on my cube walls even after working for more than 4 months... first I was not too keen on "decorating" my cube and making it the centre of attention... unlike some people.... secondly I wasn't sure how long I'm staying in that work... even though now I know that I am going to stay for a year. Nevertheless, I caught sight of a blog that gives out templates for paper toys that it designed and published, and decide to make a Obama paper doll since US is into the heat of election and voting very soon. Caught in the addiction of making more paper dolls after making Obama, I downloaded another and completed, Zombie Freud!!

We are back again for another event of SketchCrawl, this time we were in Los Angeles. I was glad Joo Sung and On could join us for the sketch event. They made it even more fun!! At the end, they were saying we should organize such activity at least once a month, or even twice a month during the weekends. I said we should! It breaks away from our daily routines and gives our minds a rest. Anyway, you can look at the result posts here. Have fun!

My first attempt to put in more details from the thumbnail sketches I did previously. Kindof forced but it was a good practice... one or two turned out quite well and I might do a better render later.

Started to draw guns for fun and practice. These are just doodles and ideas splashed out in quick thumbnails. I'll soon choose the one  to render in detail. Perhaps more thumbnails!

It's the 20th SketchCrawl event again, and its going to be this Saturday, OCt 25, 2008. Since I will be at Glendale, California, I will begin my SketchCrawl there, but I might drive down to LA Downtown, and may visit the Natural History Museum too. This is going to be fun.

Finally Hell Boy is running away from something.

Yeah, good news for me. My professor told me in an email that my thesis animation was selected for SCAD Animate 2008, an anuual animation festival organized by the animated department of Savannah College of Art & Design. At long last, though the thesis project is somewhat not really completed, I have an animation screened in such an event. At least I have something to remember by after I left school.

I am hooked on this: thumbnail doodles. I could do this all day but there's work to do, breaks to take, and meetings to dose off in. But when I do these sketches, I'm wide awake. Click for larger picture.

Nike Logo - Design and History

Swoosh - Nike Corporate Logo There must be very few people who do not recognize the Nike Swoosh logo. With a big arsenal of superstars such as Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Andre Agassi, Shane Warne, Maria Sharapova, Venus and Serena Williams. This list is pretty long. The company takes its name from the Greek goddess of victory, Nike.  The Nike "Swoosh" is a design created in 1971 by Carolyn Davidson, a graphic design student at Portland State University. She met Phil Knight while he was teaching accounting classes and she started doing some freelance work for his company, Blue Ribbon Sports (BRS). BRS needed a new brand for a new line of athletic footwear it was preparing to introduce in 1972. Knight approached Davidson for design ideas, and she agreed to provide them, charging a rate of $2 per hour. In June 1971, Davidson presented a number of design options to Knight and other BRS executives, and they ultimately selected the mark now known globally as the Swoosh. Davidson submitted a bill for $35 for her work. (In 1983, Knight gave Davidson a gold Swoosh ring and an envelope filled with Nike stock to express his gratitude.) The logo represents the wing of the Greek Goddess.The Nike logo is a classic case of a company gradually simplifying its corporate identity as its frame increases. The company's first logo appeared in 1971, when the word "Nike," the Greek goddess of victory, was printed in orange over the outline of a checkmark, the sign of a positive mark. Used as a motif on sports shoes since the 1970s, this checkmark is now so recognizable that the company name itself has became superfluous. The solid corporate logo design check was registered as a trademark in 1995. The Nike logo design is an abstract wing, designed by Carolyn Davidson, was an appropriate and meaningful symbol for a company that marketed running shoes. The "JUST DO IT" slogan and logo design campaign communicated such a strong point of view to their target market that the meaning for the logo design symbol evolved into a battle cry and the way of life for an entire generation. Isn't it amazing how a small symbol we call a logo design can make a company into a huge success The Nike logo is a registered trademark of Nike.
